Dr. Macson Lee, OD, FOVDRA (Dr. Max) has devoted his career to Neuro-Optometry, vision therapy, vision rehabilitation, and sports vision enhancement. His journey began in 1996 during his undergraduate years at UCLA, where he worked at the Jules Stein Eye Institute as a microbiology lab technician and as a vision therapist assistant helping individuals with learning-related vision challenges.
He went on to earn his Doctor of Optometry degree from the State University of New York (SUNY), where he was honored with the 2005 College of Vision Development Excellence Award for Vision Therapy. Eager to further his expertise, Dr. Max was selected for SUNY’s prestigious residency program, training under pioneers in neuro and developmental vision optometry. He later achieved his Fellowship in the Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation Association (OVDRA). Today, he serves on the OVDRA International Examination Certification Board, dedicating countless hours to certifying doctors and therapists worldwide.
His involvement in education and collaboration includes regional schools and hospitals like OHSU brain injury/ concussion department, Legacy Health, the Portland Clinic and Providence’s Child Center and their Center for Medically Fragile Children. He continues to collaborate and volunteer with the Lion’s club and has traveled and examined patients from Guatemala, Venezuela, Columbia, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay and many trips to Mexico.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and raised in Southern California, Dr. Max has been introduced to many languages like Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, and Taiwanese, where he can hold some conversation. His multicultural background fuels his love for travel and cultural exploration—whether visiting Cambodia’s Angkor Wat, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, sailing Croatia’s Adriatic Sea, or hiking Costa Rica’s cloud forests.
Outside of work, Dr. Max enjoys an active lifestyle. You might spot him on the pickleball courts laughing with friends, playing backyard cornhole with his partner and daughter, or tending to their homegrown fruits and vegetables. A passionate foodie, he delights in discovering new cuisines—and recreating them in his own kitchen. If you happen to mention his two favorite words,
fried chicken, you might just find yourself invited over for dinner.
